Function
All components used in the wind farm must be manufactured. This includes the turbine and its subcomponents, as well as balance of plant components such as cables, substations and foundations.
Who is involved
The European turbine supply market is dominated by three key Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs); GE Renewable Energy, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) and Vestas.
Balance of plant manufacture is less centralised. The process is subcontracted by the developer to specialist contractors, which usually specialise in a particular component manufacture, such as cables or a certain type of foundation.
